3D INTEGRATION
3D integration and multipass compositing
I use 3D when it is the most practical way to create an element that can then be integrated into live-action footage.
3D as part of the compositing process
My main focus is compositing, but some shots benefit from a 3D solution. I can create or adapt assets, match the camera, prepare lighting and render the passes needed for integration in Nuke.
Depending on the shot, this can include modelling, texturing, camera tracking, lighting and beauty, shadow, reflection, ambient occlusion or utility passes. Keeping these contributions separate provides more control than relying on one finished render.
Multipass integration in Nuke
In compositing, I balance the passes against the plate and add the details that make the element belong there: contact shadows, reflections, depth, defocus, motion blur, grain and atmospheric interaction.
The goal is straightforward: the rendered element should appear to have been photographed by the same camera, under the same conditions, as the rest of the shot.
